NEWLY RELEASED
Forty-one year old Dana Quinn, a closet writer, career waitress and three-time psych ward patient has just lost her last family member. For Dana to go on, she must create a life meaningful enough to answer her eternal question: why did she alone survive the accident that killed her family? That's a tall order for someone who's barely managed to exist. Never married, in and out of an institution where only her writing saved her, Dana works a dismal job with a few friends she's managed to keep at a safe distance.

Lost and hopeless in the weeks following Aunt Irma's unexpected death, Dana discovers a letter and takes her aunt's advice to walk away from her life in Queens and return to her family farm to write herself well one more time. For over thirty years Dana's believed the farm was sold and did her best to forget it. But what if everything in the house is frozen in time exactly the way they left it? Nothing can stop her from walking through that door. On the road she adopts a one-eared dog and finds a new best friend in Iowan-turned-New Yorker, Stu, who's given up designing off-Broadway sets to care for his ailing mother back in his tiny hometown.

Chokecherry, her father's beloved farm, is not at all what Dana expects and far more than she bargains for. By firelight, Malcolm reveals the cryptic history buried in the tunnel, and why the big barn strikes fear in the hearts of those who enter it. Despite its tragic past, the farm also possesses an undeniable capacity to heal the broken. In fact, it seems to be a magnet for broken hearts. Just as Dana and her friends form a tight bond and rise to the challenge of helping Chokecherry realize its true potential, a supernatural ability she's failed to repress for years, nearly kills her. Dana's forced to fight for a life she wants--a life that finally answers her eternal question in ways she never could've imagined.

My review of the book:
Chokecherry was a great book. I do think you have to have an open mind to be able to enjoy it. The book started slow for me but I really go into it in the 4th chapter or so. The pace picked up and I was more into what was going on with the main character Dana. I found myself relating to her in a lot of ways. She has been through a lot and just wants to find herself again. I do not want to give too much away so I will just say that.
Sheri Meshal has another book called Swallowtail and it is now on my list to read. I bet I would enjoy it just as much as I enjoyed Chokecherry.

About the Author

Sheri Meshal spent most of her childhood on an old farm in Iowa. She is an author by day and chauffeur by night... for a tad bit longer. She inherited her lifelong love of books from her father, who sensed she was a writer long before she did, and changed the course of her life by telling her so.  Her debut novel, Swallowtail, took over six years to write and was inspired by bizarre events which occurred shortly after her father's passing in 1998. Best friends, they'd engaged in countless conversations regarding the possibility of life after death.

A minimalist, Sheri currently lives in Chicago sans furniture with her dog, Kylee and her roommate and fellow writer, Mack Oliver. When she isn't writing, she's traveling and spending time with her nieces and nephews every chance she gets.

Sheri's Debut Book - Swallowtail
Chicago wife, mother and finance executive Claire Cummings, arrives at work one morning to discover her friend Julia has embezzled millions and vanished. Blindsided and devastated by the betrayal, she’s sent home pending further investigation. Claire’s bizarre death the following day sends everyone reeling, guessing and looking for her in all the wrong places. In no time she's addicted to an enchanting menagerie of tricks and techniques for getting the living's attention, but most people are harder to reach than she'd ever dreamed and even harder to set free.

She was still a mother, a wife, a daughter and a friend... she'd move heaven and earth to keep it that way.

Sheri Meshal’s Swallowtail is a haunting story about life, love, loss and just how far we’ll go to control it all.

This debut from a thought-provoking new voice in fiction begs the question… what would you do if all the rules changed, and you were suddenly bestowed powers beyond your greatest imagination?

Angry Woman Suite By Lee Fullbright Book Review/$25 paypal or Amazon Giveaway

1
COMMENT

Master storyteller Lee Fullbright weaves three unique voices together in her award-winning psychological mystery about consequences. The Angry Woman Suite is a rare and bold novel; a heartbreaking, hopeful marvel.

"They need to be exercised, hearts do ... to keep them strong."

Every family has skeletons, but the Grayson family has more than its share of secrets--and of portraits. Mystery portraits that incite and obscure. Portraits to die for.

An unsolved celebrity double murder in Pennsylvania. A girl looking for autonomy. A young man in search of an identity. An older man's quest for justice.

A plot that pulls and twists.

My Take on the Book:
I love that this book is written from the view of three characters and not just one. To me that makes it a little more interesting. All of the plot twists made me want to keep reading and not put it down. Things never seem to be what they actually are in this novel. The book was not what I expected. It does have a lot of characters and jumps around a lot. Each character has its own problem and I did get a little lost a few times but figured out what was going on. I really enjoyed this book!

Veil of Tears Movie Review/Giveaway

Veil of Tears opened my eyes to a world I have never seen nor even knew existed. It takes you into the lives of Indian women. Widows and women who do not bear boy children are shunned from the only community they know. I will admit the movie made me cry like a baby. Christian's have come in and set up to help these women. They are bringing Indian women to Christ and letting them know that they have purpose and are worth something. This is a movie that needs to be seen by everyone. You will learn a lot from it and might even cry too.

When Calls The Heart A Telling Silence Movie Review

I loved the first When Calls The Heart movie so I was really happy to get this one too. Elizabeth Thatcher decides to reach out to a mute girl and help her more in school. When the girl goes missing the whole town searches for her. They think someone has stolen her. They do find her safely. While this is going on Cat Montgomery is being investigated for a suspicious church fire. The fire has caused the church to be shut down.

There is a lot of action and some romance in this movie. I really enjoyed it though. You can watch the trailer here: When Calls The Heart Trailer.

The The Well of Wyrding  (The Revenant Wyrd Saga #3)

"Experience the long anticipated sequel to The Mirror of the Moon.

In the fantastical lands of the Great Realms, Angelica, Jovian, and Joya are on the search for their older sister Amber, who has been kidnapped by the villain, Porillon. But Amber has slipped away from all of them, and where she has gone is as big a mystery as why she was taken. While they are searching for their sister, Porillon strikes a staggering blow to the entire land.

The Well of Wyrding, a mythic well which contains the magic and fate of every creature in the Great Realms, has been poisoned creating havoc as the magic power of wyrd becomes toxic.

While Grace, Rosalee, and Dalah seek a way to purify the Well of Wyrding, wyrd is going haywire, buildings fashioned with wyrd are turning to pinnacles of terror; wyrd is working against its casters; and people are taking up arms against the threat sorcerers and their kind pose.

But the toxic wyrd is causing a new problem to arise. They are called caustics: those wyrders who have been completely taken over by their chaotic wyrd. Husks of what they once were, they are now a vessel for Chaos in the realms."

My Review:
I really love when an author keeps a saga going. That is just what Travis Simmons has done so far. I do not want to give too much away but The Well of Wyrding is awesome. I am really enjoying the fantasy and science fiction in this series. This book has teachers who are being overtaken by a toxic substance and end up killing their entire classroom of kids! It is graphic and has great details to pull the story together. I bet the next book will be just as good as the rest!

About the Author
Travis has been writing since he was 14.  He began writing a book called "The Calling of the Two" and while writing that on and off he started uncovering another idea.

"Yes, this is all well and good, but what about before? What happened in the world before these characters came into it?" He always knew there was a "before" and as he started wondering about it he got ideas. At first they were little ideas but as he discovered the names for his characters a whole story about them emerged.

Travis started working on The Revenant Wyrd Saga several years back and he is very happy he did because hearing and documenting Jovian and Angelica's story has been one wild ride for him.  He has also written the Infernal Design series.

He lives in a small town at the base of the Adirondack Mountains and hoofing around my neck of the woods gives him a ton of inspiration for his novels.   He loves research, and speculating on different ideas and theories.

Shazzy Fitness Review

*Disclosure: I was provided complimentary videos to facilitate my review. These are my opinion and experiences only and yours may differ.*

I am always looking for a fun new fitness video to try. When I saw Shazzy Fitness I thought it was awesome and wanted to try it so bad. I was sent two of their videos to use and love them. Now I will admit that I have no rhythm and am a horrible dancer but I loved that it is Christian music with an awesome beat to it.

I like to get my daughter involved in my workouts in some way as well. This video made it easy to do just that. She would get up and move to the music too. I was horrible with some moves but hey at least I was up and moving right?

I was sent the videos In The Beginning and A Time To Dance. I have only used the In The Beginning one so far. It is easy to follow moves with step by step instructions. My hardest part was the dance off at the end. This part was just going with the flow and dancing along. I somehow just lost the beat but I kept on moving. I am going to try the second video soon. I am really loving the music and the moves. If you would like to learn more about the videos please visit Shazzy Fitness and you too can "Shape what the father gave you."

I Love You All The Same is a book about three bear cubs who look different but are brothers and sisters. Their mom and dad still love them all even though they are different. God put them right where they belong. This is a great book for families to teach their kids that even though they are not the same mama and daddy still love them all the same. I love that it is written with animals and is funny. It is a very cute book that we really enjoyed. You can look at a sample of it here: Flipbook. You can also learn more about it here: I Love You All The Same. You can enter to win your own copy below. Good luck!

We are always looking for good books to read before bedtime. I really like to use bed time themed ones or else Christine gets too hyper and does not wind down. Sleep Sweet My Little One has great illustrations and is written in a rhyming way that makes it fun. It is written for kids ages 1 to 4. Christine enjoys it a lot. She especially likes a part where the stars are named. I think she likes the illustration on the page because she does not let me change it.
In the book you go on an adventure with a sleepy little kid. He plays with the moon and thanks it for the light it gives off. The light lulls him to sleep. It is such a cute book.

The book is a board book so it is sturdy and easy for little ones to handle. You can see some of the book here: Flipbook. You can also learn more about it here: Sleep Sweet My Little One. You can also enter to win your own copy below. Good luck!

The Kid Who Changed the World is an awesome book! It is based on true stories of people like Henry Wallace and Susan Carver. All of the stories intertwine. Without one story the other would have never happened. This book is based on The Butterfly Effect By Andy Andrews. The book shows kids that every little thing they do matters and could change the world. They could be the next kid to change the world! Christine could care less at her age but I bet when she is older this will be exciting to her. The book is written for kids 4 to 8 years old.

Growing With Jesus Book Review/Giveaway

I seem to have an addiction to devotions. I guess that is not a bad addiction to have though. Growing with Jesus is a kids book of 100 devotions and is by Andy Holmes. Each devotion is two pages. The first page has a theme and a bible verse on it while the second page has thoughts to grow on. Thoughts to grow on are ways to put what you learn into action. I really love the cute illustrations in this book. In the end of the book there is a subject and bible verse index. You can look up a certain subject like Cain and Able or look up Acts 2:3 and it will tell you what pages to go to.

We read devotions daily. Christine and I like to do it in the morning after or during breakfast. She does not read but she loves to look at the pictures while I read them. Growing With Jesus has become one of our favorite devotion books. You can see a sample of it here: Growing With Jesus Flipbook. You can also learn more about the book here: Growing With Jesus. If you would like you can enter to win your own copy below. Good luck!

So Not Okay Book Review/Giveaway

When I saw this book being offered I knew I wanted to read it. I was bullied as a child and it was hard to go to school daily. I think it is great that author Nancy Rue wrote a series on bullying. So Not Okay is the first book in the Mean Girl Makeover series. This book is from the point of view of the bystander.

The book follows Tori  Taylor a sixth grade student. She knows who to avoid and who to be friends with. A new girl named Ginger comes to school and the bully Kylie starts to pick on her. Tori is pretty happy because it is not her. She does start to feel guilty though and she tries to be nice to Ginger. Soon though Kylie starts to bully them both. Will Tori try to stay with Ginger or try to avoid her to stop the bullying?

This book is written for girls ages 8 to 12. I enjoyed the book a lot even as an adult. It is something that I would let my daughter read when she is old enough. I plan to read the whole series and will review them all.
You can learn more about the book at Tommy Nelson online. If you would like to win a copy for yourself or your twee/teen you can enter below.
Good luck!
